In a business that has a reputation for attracting flashy characters with colorful personalities, how could a low profile straight-shooting accountant who kept the books at Atlantic Records surface to become hottest promotion man in the entire business? Not since the days of the legend of Clark Kent has a person emerged to parallel his status. In similar fashion, Mario “The Big M” Medious would depart the bookkeeping department and reappear in the promotion department sporting a brand new wardrobe. Even the company’s senior brass were shaking their heads in disbelief as this slender young man shed his eyeglasses, black tie and conservative suit to reinvent himself and dazzle key radio personnel and Rock legends alike. This is the story of Mario Medious becoming the next super hero among the label’s prestigious roster of stars. As the curtain opens…

Rexx Rocks Special 03: “Shake What Mama Gave Ya”

Posted by funkyjudge on November 19th, 2008

Rexx Rocks Special 03
Welcome Rockers, to yet another version of the Rexx Rocks Podcast here at BostonMonkey.net, 1/3 of the Funky Judge Network pie.

It’s about time the Judge and I produced this particular episode of the Rexx Rocks Podcast. It’s is going to bring you the closest you will ever come to a J. Geils Band Reunion or new J. Geils Band Album. The tracks you are going to hear will make your knees freeze and your bladder splatter

This podcast is a result of a collaboration of some rocking, sweaty, J. Geils Band fans that remember the boys from the concert halls of the 1970’s. The J. Geils Band was THE live act to see in the 70’s and early 80’s.

This collaborative effort took place in 2005 and each time I hear it, it’s like the first time all over again. Now, we share it with the world.

The rocking, sweaty fans are a product of the J. Geils Band Fan Hotline. You can find the link to the Hotline at www.FunkyJudge.net.

Chances are that you’ve never heard this recording and wouldn’t be able to hear it without the efforts of Hotline member, Land Of 1000 Dances and the Funky Judge. The “album” you are about to hear in it’s entirety is another live, rocking testimony to the original bad boys from Boston, the funkiest band in the land.

The songs are taken from various radio shows and were recorded in 1974, mostly from the Cobo Hall shows in Detroit. It is believed that other songs from these shows were used on the Live, BLOW YOUR FACE OUT ALBUM.

1000 Dances listened to more than 6 hours of the same shows to find the best sounding tracks.
All tracks were cleaned of surface/white noises. Then a ‘Sound morph’ filter was applied to make the whole thing sound as one continuous show.

After much debate, the album was named SHAKE WHAT MAMA GAVE YA and the set list was built by some of the Hotline forum members. The show was available to download during the whole month of August 2005 for the Hotline members.

The set list can be seen at www.RexxRocks.BlogSpot.com. Don’t forget to support your local Funky Judge at www.FunkyJudge.net and catch more.

Hats off to the FunkyJudge and Land of 1000 Dances for this great live album for all you J. Geils Band fans that just can’t get enough.
